SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Mansfield softball team fell in a pair of nail-biters to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division foe, Shippensburg University on the road on Tuesday afternoon, April 25.
The Mounties dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker in the opener before falling in the nightcap, 4-2.
The Mounties fall to 10-32 overall and 1-29 in the PSAC East while the fourth-place Raiders improve to 26-15 overall and 18-10 in the conference.Â
Danielle Goff pitched her heart out, tossing all 12 innings for the Mounties, allowing just five earned runs and fanning eight Raiders' hitters.Â
GAME ONE: Raiders 3, Mounties 2
Gabby Drumm doubled in a pair of runs to give the Mounties an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Shippensburg scored three runs over their next two at-bats while shutting out Mansfield the rest of the way to earn the victory.Â
Shippensburg led 7-4 in hits and did not suffer from an error, while Mansfield committed one.
Goff threw her first gem of the day for Mansfield, going six innings while limiting the Raiders to three runs (two earned) on seven hits, finishing with one strikeout. Â
Four different Mountaineers recorded hits, led by a two-RBI double by Drumm.Â
GAME TWO: Raiders 4, Mounties 2
The Mounties matched the Raiders in hits, 7-7, but the Raiders benefited from an unearned run early and a wild pitch late to steal the victory.Â
After digging an early 2-0 hole, the Mounties stormed back with the equalizing runs in the top of the third led by an RBI by
Gabby Drumm.Â
However, the Raiders put the game away with two runs in their half of the sixth before retiring the Mounties in four hitters in the top of the seventh.Â
Goff gave the Mounties another quality start in the circle, going six-complete innings, limiting the Raiders to four runs (three earned) and fanning five.Â
Six different Mountaineers landed in the hit column, led by a pair of singles from
Caydence Macik.Â
