MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield University softball team dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East games to Bloomsburg University at Helen Lutes Field on Wednesday afternoon, April 19.
The Mounties fell 10-1 in game one, before dropping the nightcap, 4-1. The Mounties fall to 10-26 overall and 1-23 in the PSAC East while the Huskies improve to 15-27 overall and 9-13 in conference.
Caydence Macik led the Mountaineers on the afternoon with an RBI in each game.
GAME ONE:
Callie Sowers was the story on the mound for the Huskies, as she carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, until Anastasia Berardi broke it up with a double to right center in the bottom of the fifth. Kaelyn Watson pinch ran for Berardi and later came around to score on a single by Macik, her first RBI of the day.
The Huskies scored a pair of runs in the second, fourth, and sixth inning, while plating four in the fifth en route to victory.
Sowers picked up her 12th win of the year, allowing one run in six innings, adding 13 strikeouts.
Annabella Putnam was dealt the loss for MU and was charged with nine earned runs on 16 hits. Four different Mountaineers finished with hits after Berardi's double.
GAME TWO:
Bloomsburg opened the scoring with a solo run in the second inning, but the Mounties pushed across the eqalizer in the bottom half when Macik drove in Berardi to knot the game at 1-1.
However, the Huskies scored two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh, while keeping MU off the scoreboard to seal the victory.
Three different Mounties found the hit column, while Macik drove in the lone run again to lead the way. Danielle Goff landed the loss, despite only allowing two earned runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.
For the Huskies, Kelly Eberly allowed one run on three hits to pick up the victory, while Mia Nemeth homered to lead the offense.
