SB: Mounties celebrate Senior Day, fall twice to West Chester

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield University softball team fell twice to West Chester University, 14-1, 12-2, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, April 15 at Helen Lutes Field. The Mounties fell 14-1 in game one and 12-2 in the nightcap.

The Mounties celebrated seniors Morgan Mesaris and Morgan Berndt prior to the doubleheader for their contributions to Mansfield University and the softball program.

Three different Mounties recorded a hit in game one, while Kayla Vonstein added a run scored.

The Mounties lone run came in the bottom of the first inning when Vonstein scored on a passed ball.

West Chester led the contest in hits, 14-4. Danielle Ciliberto picked up her 12th win in the circle for West Chester, limiting the Mounties to one run in five innings.

Danielle Goff (5-11) and Annabella Putnam took the circle for MU in game one, combining for four strikeouts.

In game two, WCU built a 7-0 lead through the opening three innings, before the Mounties cut into the deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBIs by Madison Bailey and Anastasia Berardi

However, the Golden Rams struck for five runs in the top of the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.

Vonstein, Bailey, and Caydence Macik all recorded two hits in the nightcap, while Bailey added a triple and Macik doubled.
