SB: Mounties drop twinbill to Millersville

MANSFIELD, Pa. - Melissa Demo drove in two runs in game one and went a perfect 3-for-3 in game two to lead the Mansfield University softball team, who dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East contests at home to Millersville University on Friday afternoon, April 14. The Mounties fell 8-2 in game one and 14-3 in the night cap.

The final score did not tell the story in game one, as Danielle Goff threw a gem through six innings to allow the Mounties to knot the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

The Marauders, however, put up a six-spot in the top of the seventh, before shutting down the Mounties in the bottom half to secure the victory.

The Ville plated solo runs in the top of the third and fifth inning to lead 2-0, before Mansfield connected for the tying runs thanks to a two-run triple by Demo in the bottom of the fifth.

Kayla Vonstein finished with two hits, while Demo drove in both runs to lead the Mounties' offense. Goff was charged with five earned runs, but gave the Mounties a chance to win until the Marauders rallied in the seventh.

The Marauders carried that momentum into game two, scoring in every inning, led by a five-spot in the fifth on their way to the run-rule victory.

Millersville belted out 12 hits, but also took advantage of five Mountaineer errors to put up 14 runs.

The Mounties rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Fallon Kelley

Kelley and Demo combined for five hits, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Mounties in the nightcap.

Aleese Angel homered twice and drove in seven runs to lead the Ville to victory.
