MANSFIELD, Pa. -
Gabby Drumm left the yard twice to lead the Mansfield University softball team to a split with Lock Haven University on Tuesday, April 11 at Helen Lutes Field. The Mounties won game one, 6-5, before falling 12-3 in the nightcap.
The Mountaineers clawed their way back from an early 5-0 deficit to secure their first conference victory of the season.
Drumm woke up the Mountaineer offense with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, sparking a three-run rally that cut the deficit to 5-3.
Morgan Berndt cut the Bald Eagle lead to one (5-4) in the fifth, before
Caydence Macik belted a two-run shot over the left field wall to give the Mounties a 6-5 advantage with six outs to go.
Annabella Putnam was dominate out of the bullpen, keeping the Bald Eagles off the scoreboard over 4.2 innings, adding three strikeouts. Putnam scattered five hits and landed her fourth win of the season.
Macik and Drumm combined for three RBI and two homers to lead MU's offense, while
Kayla Vonstein and
Madison Bailey pitched in RBI doubles.
Delaney Good collected three hits to lead the Bald Eagles' offense, while Keira Middleton landed the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (five earned) in 4.1 innings.
In game two, Drumm blasted her second home run of the day over the left field wall to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but LHU countered with four runs in the third, five in the fifth and three in the sixth to secure the run-rule victory.
The Mounties third run came in the bottom of the third when Drumm drove in
Fallon Kelley with a sacrifice fly.
Drumm and Kelley led the Mountaineers' offense as Drumm drove in three runs, adding a homer, and Kelley doubled and scored.
Danielle Goff allowed just two earned runs over 4.2 innings, but the Mountaineers committed three errors to allow LHU to pull away.
For LHU, Kerri McCallum homered and Riley McClellan drove in three runs to lead their offense. Kinley Gioglio picked up the victory in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings.
