BOWIE, Md. - After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Mansfield University softball team tied the game in the sixth before plating the game-winner in the seventh to win game one of a non-conference doubleheader, 2-1, at Bowie State University on Sunday afternoon, March 5. The Mounties fell in the nightcap, 11-2.
Danielle Goff earned her second victory on the season, tossing the complete seven innings, limiting Bowie State to one run on three hits, while striking out five.Â
Bowie State's lone run came in the bottom half of the fifth, when they broke the scoreless tie to lead 1-0.Â
The Mounties, however, knotted the score in their half of the sixth whenÂ

Goff did her job in the bottom of the sixth to allow the Mounties to score the eventual game-winning run in the seventh whenÂ

The Mounties totaled four hits in the contest, while adding seven walks, one extra-base hit, while committing just one error in the field.Â
Lindsey George landed the loss for the Bull Dogs, allowing two earned runs in five innings of work. Harvey Breanna knocked in the Bull Dogs' lone run to lead the offense.Â
In game two, the Mounties built an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a 2-RBI single byÂ
Caydence Macik, but the Bull Dogs countered with a pair of runs in their half of the first, before erupting for 11 runs over the next five innings to steal game two, 11-2.Â
Mansfield committed two errors in the nightcap and were outhit, 6-4. Bowie State also walked 14 times.
Karen Fritzges earned the victory in the circle for Bowie State, throwing 5 and 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Fritzges also had two hits and three RBI at the plate to lead the offense.Â
Emma Wonsick landed the loss on the mound for MU, allowing four runs (two earned) in one inning of work. Starter
Annabella Putnam earned the no-decision, throwing the first three innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out six.Â
