Katelyn Mesch hit a pinch-hit grand slam and pitchers had two shutouts to lead the Mansfield University softball team to a sweep on day one of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday, March 13.

The Mounties took game one over the College of Mount Saint Vincent 8-0 after five innings; and won their second game over Jefferson University by a score of 4-0.

In game one, Mansfield closed out the game with a pinch-hit grand slam by Mesch to take the lead to 8-0, and win on the run-rule.

The Mounties defense got out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning and flipped the game scoring early with an Anastasia Barardi sacrifice fly that scored two runs, with
Danielle Goff adding an RBI double to give the Mounties a 3-0 lead. Goff would add another RBI in the third inning.

Goff was solid in the circle improving to 3-0 on the year going all five innings with five strikeouts. She was the top hitter going 2-2 with two RBI and a walk.

In game two,
Annabella Putnam had the complete game shutout, striking out five batters with zero walks. Mansfield's top hitter was
Fallon Kelley, who went 2-3 with three RBI.

 Mansfield got off to another quick start with Kelley and
Kylie Bornman each collecting RBI. Kelley knocked in two more in the next inning to add the insurance runs going up 4-0.

Mansfield is back in action Tuesday, March 14, as they take on SUNY Canton and University of Rio Grande (Ohio) on the second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
