Morgan Berndt and
Melissa Demo each had Inside-the-park home runs to lead the Mansfield University softball team to a 7-0 victory against SUNY Canton to secure a split on their second day in North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday morning, March 14. The Mounties fell to University of Rio Grande, 5-2, in the second game.

In game one, Berndt found the gap and raced around the bases for the inside-the-park home run as the first score of the game.

Kayla Vonstein and
Madison Bailey added a pair of RBI to extend the lead 3-0 after two innings. Berndt added an RBI triple to extend the lead to 4-0 in the following inning.

In the fourth, Demo hit a shot down the right field line that kept carrying and sped around all four bases for the second inside-the-park home run of the game.
Fallon Kelley knocked in another run in that inning. The final run came in the fifth on a Roos error that pushed the score to 7-0.

Anabella Putnam tallied nine strikeouts and did not allow a walk for the second straight day, pitching a complete game shutout. Â Berndt was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with a home run, a triple, and a double.

In the second game the Mounties got off to a quick start again with
Gabby Drumm and
Anastasia Berardi getting RBI in the first and third inning, but the offense stalled after that point.

The Red Storm took advantage of Mansfield errors and scored four in the bottom of the fourth. They added an insurance run in the following inning to take the game 5-2.

Danielle Goff pitched the complete game, striking out four and only giving up one earned run. Vonstein was Mansfield's top hitter going 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
Caydence Macik added two hits in the contest.

Mansfield takes the field again on Thursday, March 16, as they take on Albertus Magnus College and Muhlenberg College for their third day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. Â
