Goff’s Shutout Sparks Day Three Split

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- Danielle Goff tossed a complete game shutout to lead the Mansfield University softball team over Albertus Magnus College, 3-0, in the first game of day three of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, on Thursday, March 16. The Mounties fell to Muhlenburg College 5-4 in the second game.

In Game one, Goff struck out seven Falcons in the game and only allowed five hits. She got out of two jams with bases loaded in the second and runner on third in the final inning.

The Mounties struck offensively in the second inning, after Fallon Kelley reached on an error and Kayla Vonstein scored. In the next at-bat, Anastasia Berardi singled to right field scoring Kelley from second base to lead 2-0.

Mansfield added their final run in the seventh when Vonstein hit an RBI single. She was 3-of-4 in the game.

In game two, the Mountaineers found themselves in a hole early down 4-0 to the Mules after the first inning. Mansfield tried to rally in the fifth as Carly Wywoda scored on a passed ball and Kelley and Katelyn Mesch each knocked in a run to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Mules added a run in the sixth inning, and a seventh inning Kylie Bornman RBI wasn't enough to give the Mounties a lead and they fell 5-4.

Annabella Putnam played a complete game in the circle striking out four. Kelley and Wywoda each had a pair of hits in the game.

The Mounties have one more game day in Myrtle Beach, as they take on Lycoming College, and the University of Maine, Presque Isle on Friday, March 17.
