WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Mansfield University softball team (9-9, 0-6 PSAC East) fell twice on the road at West Chester University (15-10, 3-1 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Monday afternoon, March 27. The Mounties fell 6-0 in the opener and 11-0 in the nightcap.

In game one, neither team got anything going until the bottom of the third when the Golden Rams pushed two runs across to take an early lead.

West Chester followed with runs during each of their final three at-bats, while shutting out MU on their way to victory.

The Mounties were limited to three hits, led by a pair from
Morgan Berndt, while the Golden Rams totaled seven base knocks on their way to six runs.

Danielle Goff (5-4) took the loss in the circle for Mansfield, allowing five runs (three earned) in five innings, and striking out six. Â

Danielle Ciliberto was the story on the mound for West Chester, tossing a complete-game shutout, while striking out eight Mountaineers.Â

West Chester carried the momentum into the nightcap, exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to an 11-0 run-rule victory.

WCU did the damage on 11 hits, while taking advantage of two Mountaineer errors.

Kayla Vonstein was the loan Mountaineer to find the hit column for MU.
Annabella Putnam was dealt the loss on the mound.

Casey Best led the West Chester offense with a three-run homer, while Antonia Browning picked up the second WCU shutout of the day, going five-scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

The Mounties' home doubleheader against Lock Haven University scheduled for tomorrow afternoon has been postponed due to forecasted rain and unplayable field conditions. The Mounties next action comes on Friday afternoon, March 31 when Shepherd University comes to town for a 2 p.m. PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field.
