MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Mansfield University softball team (9-7, 0-4 PSAC East) dropped a pair of game on the road to Millersville (13-11, 2-2 PSAC East) University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Sunday afternoon, March 26.
The Mounties kicked off the scoring in the top of the first inning when
Morgan Berndt singled up the middle to plate
Melissa Demo.
However, the Marauders countered with a run in the first before tacking on four more in the second to lead 5-1 heading into the third.
Millersville added three runs over the fourth and fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-1.
The Mounties went scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when
Morgan Mesaris drive in Berndt with an RBI single, but it was enough as Millersville held on for the victory.
Berndt led the Mounties' offense in game one, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Danielle Goff (5-3) landed the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs (five earned), while striking out seven in six-complete innings of work.
Gabby D'Ottavio homered and drove in a pair to lead the way for the Marauders.
In game two, Berndt continued her hot streak picking up an RBI in the top of the first and
Fallon Kelley followed suite with a 2-RBI double to help Mansfield build a 3-0 advantage.
However, Millersville matched their effort with three hits in their half of the first inning to plate three runs and knot the score at 3-3.
The Marauders continued to control the game, plating four runs in the second, one in the fourth, and five more in the fifth and sixth inning to lead 14-6 after six complete.
The Mounties got their run total up to six with a solo shot from
Carly Wywoda in their half of the fourth before Kelley drove in a pair for her team-heading fourth RBI of the game.
Kelley led the Mounties with three hits, a double, and four RBI.
Gabi Turner led the Marauders with a home run and four RBIs.
The Mounties travel to West Chester University tomorrow afternoon for a PSAC East doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
