INDIANA, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers men's basketball team (3-5, 1-2 PSAC) traveled to IUP (6-3, 3-0 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover action on Monday night, but the Crimson Hawks came out on top to take down the Mounties, 77-59.
Idris Ali stood out as the only Mountie with double figures on the game, scoring 18 points.
Four players finished in double figures for the home team, who exceeded from beyond the arc, shooting 46% (13-28) on the night.
Early in the contest, neither team could distance themselves apart, with the host holding a slim 13-12 lead.
Behind a 10-1 run in just three minutes, IUP used their early success from beyond the arc to push out to a 23-13 lead.
The Crimson Hawks capitalized on their success, finishing off the half with a 56% (9-16) rate from beyond the arc in the first half, cruising to a 39-25 lead heading into the locker rooms.
To start the second half, the Mounties closed the gap by limiting the lead to ten but, the home team still led 48-38.
The home team maintained their double-digit lead, which they had held since the first half and took their largest lead of the game, leading 59-44.
Mansfield could not return the lead to single digits, and this led to the Crimson Hawks closing out the crossover clash to remain unbeaten in PSAC action with a 77-59 victory.
