No. 7 Mansfield Falls Short in Comeback Conference Clash

The Mansfield field hockey team traveled to Shippensburg for an all-important conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The No. 7 Mansfield field hockey team (7-4, 1-2 PSAC) fell to No. 2 Shippensburg (10-2, 4-0 PSAC) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) clash on a thrilling Saturday afternoon which saw the Raiders hold on for a 3-2 victory, despite the strong Mountie finish in the contest.

Through the first quarter of the game, it was a Raider rampage as the host scored early after being awarded a penalty stroke. Shippensburg held the Mounties shotless and landed eight of their own with seven penalty corners throughout the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Raiders doubled their lead after another goal to put the pressure on Mansfield to create a comeback, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.

After the first half, the Mounties found the rhythm the team needed with Kalin Duke sending in the first goal, just two minutes into the second half.

Two minutes later, the home team responded with their own goal to secure another two-goal lead, holding the 3-1 lead.

Alexis Bell blasted the second goal of the game for the Mounties to cut the lead back to one, completing the two goal thriller in the third.

Mansfield pushed hard in the final quarter, but the Raiders were able to hold off the offensive force to take home the important 3-2 victory.

The Mounties tallied six shots on goal, two from the previous mentioned, Saramae Radel, Kenedy Stroup, Hannah Meyer, and Alex Esterling.

August Lewis made eleven saves on the afternoon, her season high so far.
