MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's soccer team (3-12-2, 2-11-2 PSAC) was defeated by the No. 5 Kutztown Golden Bears (12-0-5, 11-0-4 PSAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Olivia Hudson earned the first chance of the game thanks to a Kutztown turnover. Hudson's shot went just wide as she narrowly missed the early opportunity in the 4th minute.
Six minutes later, the Golden Bears capitalized off a free kick and scored the first goal of the game to go up 1-0.
Taylar Luckenbill put the Mountaineers on the board with her second free kick goal of the season in the 26th minute, sending it right past the goalkeeper to even the conference clash against the nationally-ranked Golden Bears.
This goal put momentum on the side of the Mounties going into the break, as they were tied 1-1 at half.
Kutztown was able to swing the momentum back in their favor for the duration of the second half, outshooting the Mountaineers 13-0, including five shots on goal.
The Golden Bears pulled ahead in the 87th minute, with a penalty kick goal by Katelyn Economopoulos, netting her second of the day.
Kutztown was able to hold possession for the final three minutes and escape with a 2-1 victory.
Hudson led the way for Mansfield with two shots, Danielle Drain also recorded a shot for the Mountaineers.
Hudson and Luckenbill registered the two shots on goal for the Mounties.
Mansfield goalkeeper Samantha Merklin finished the game with six saves.
