EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers Women's soccer team (3-12-3, 2-11-3 PSAC) completed their 2023 season on Friday night against the East Stroudsburg Warriors (10-4-4, 8-4-4 PSAC).
The Warriors had back-to-back corners in the 21st minute but the Mansfield defense was able to minimize any chances ESU had and keep the game tied at 0.
Taylar Luckenbill had another long free kick hit the target but the East Stroudsburg goalie was able to make the save and clear before any further danger.
Jakayla Holmes got the Mountaineers on the board in the 28th minute when she slotted home the incredible through ball by Danielle Drain.
Less than a minute later, Aleigha Rieppel added another Mansfield goal with an Olimpico from the far corner to increase the Mounties lead to 2-0.
East Stroudsburg answered late in the first half to take back some of the momentum and cut their deficit to one.
In the 57th minute, ESU had a chance to tie the game but Britlyn Higgins cleared the ball off the line to maintain the 2-1 lead.
A few moments later the Warriors had a shot ring the right post and stay out, narrowly missing the game-tying goal.
East Stroudsburg tied the game in the 78th minute thanks to a Natalie Schooley goal.
Mansfield was unable to find a third as they drew the East Stroudsburg Warriors 2-2 in their final game of 2023.
Rieppel and Holmes led the Mounties in shots with two.
Holmes recorded two shots on goal leading the way for the Mountaineers. Luckenbill, Lauren Straub, and Rieppel all registered a shot on goal.
Merklin finished the game with 11 saves.
Taylar Luckenbill finished the season as the Mountaineers' top goal scorer with three including a two-goal game against Shippensburg (09/23). She also led the team in points with six on the year.
Freshman Aleigha Rieppel ended her first collegiate season leading the Mounties with two assists.
Mansfield goalkeeper Samantha Merklin finished the season with 93 saves increasing her career total to 205. Merklin also recorded two shutouts on the season, one against Shepherd on 09/27 and the other against Millersville on 10/07.
