SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. - The Mansfield Mountaineers Women's soccer team (3-11-2, 2-10-2 PSAC) was defeated by the Shepherd Rams (5-5-5, 3-5-5 PSAC) with a final score of 3-0 Wednesday afternoon.
Shepherd opened the game with an early opportunity when they sent in a through ball to create a 1-on-1 in the box with Mansfield goalkeeper Samantha Merklin. Merklin was able to make a calm save to keep the game scoreless.Â
The lone Mansfield shot on goal came from a corner that found Sam Kozminski's head but the shot was turned away by the Rams goalie.
With just over one minute remaining in the first half, Shepherd's Sofia Carrera assisted Taylor Schuck as she was able to put the Rams on the board.Â
The Mounties were unable to create any chances in the first 45 minutes as they headed into halftime down 1-0.
Shepherd once again got on the board early in the second half thanks to Josie Beezel who was assisted by Lydia Gable.
The Rams added a third and final goal late in the second half when Annabell Wunderlich played Sara Hohn through. Hohn was able to slide it past Merklin to extend the Shepherd lead to 3-0.Â
Kozminski led the way for Mansfield with one shot on goal.
Parker Moss and Riley Bittenbender each recorded a shot for the Mounties.Â
Merklin finished with a season-high 12 saves.

The Mountaineers return home Saturday, October 28, for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest against #5 Kutztown University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the MU Soccer Field.
