Mansfield Falls on Senior Day

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers women's soccer team (3-10-2, 2-9-2 PSAC East) was defeated by the Shippensburg Raiders (2-12, 2-10 PSAC East) Saturday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.

Before tonight's contest, head coach John Shaffer and the team honored their 2023 senior class:
Kylie Boyer, Faith Cameron, Bailey Dockman, Magi Earnest, Britlyn Higgins, Grace Long, Taylar Luckenbill, Parker Moss, Madison Reinhart, and Emily Smith.

The last time the two met, Luckenbill had a career day, with her first multi-goal game of her career to defeat the Raiders on the road, 2-1.

Much of the first 15 minutes was played within the midfield with neither team being able to generate offensive chances.

The game opened up a bit in the 21st minute when Shippensburg earned their first free kick and had an opportunity at goal.

Just two minutes later, the Raiders again had an opportunity to open the scoring but Cameron slammed the door to maintain the nil-nil tie.

Cameron made another incredible save in the 29th minute diving to her right after a scramble for the ball in the box found the foot of a Shippensburg Raider.

Mansfield had a through ball trickle just over the end line after a great counter attack that was orchestrated by Luckenbill and Dockman.

Just as momentum felt as if it was shifting into the favor of Mansfield, Shippensburg was able to finish a tight angle shot into the top right corner to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

The Raiders goal was the lone tally in the first 45 as the Mounties trailed headed into the second half.

The Mountaineers had another opportunity early in the 2nd half as Olivia Hudson's cross was unable to find the foot of Boyer making a run towards goal.

Hudson had a chance of her own in the 62nd minute when Luckenbill's free kick found her in front of goal but the Shippensburg goaltender was right there to scoop up the shot.

With just nine minutes to go Mansfield earned their first corner of the game, Shippensburg was able to clear the danger and maintain their lead.

With 19 seconds to go Mansfield had a final corner to try and level the score but were unsuccessful and fell to Shippensburg 1-0.

The Mountaineer defense did well to hold the Raiders to just three shots on goal.

Hudson led the Mountaineers in both shots and shots on goal with two.

Caitlyn Hoppe also recorded two shots and added one shot on goal.

Luckenbill, Moss, Boyer, Riley Bittenbender, and Aleigha Rieppel all registered a shot.

Cameron finished the game with two saves.
