Mounties Come Up Short Against Bloomsburg

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers Women's soccer team (3-9-2, 2-8-2 PSAC East) was defeated by the Bloomsburg University Huskies (6-4-4, 6-3-3 PSAC East) by a final score of 2-0 on Wednesday night at Karl Van Norman Field.

Just three minutes into the game Bloomsburg's first chance rattled the crossbar and was cleared away by Mansfield goalkeeper Samantha Merklin.

Bloomsburg got on the board early with some beautiful give and go passes down the right wing that ended with a cross onto the foot of Bloomsburg forward Ellie Rowe who buried the first goal into the top right corner.

Bailey Dockman had the best Mountaineer chance of the game in the 39th minute when her header rang off the crossbar, nearly missing her bid at a game tying goal.

Bloomsburg added another quickly in the second half when Amanda Stoll capitalized on a corner kick in the 47th minute. Increasing the Husky lead to 2-0 and providing insurance to close out a Bloomsburg win.

Katelyn Rueppel led the way for the Mounties with two shots on goal. Lauren Straub also had a shot on goal for the Mountaineers.

Riley Bittenbender recorded two shots, while Dockman and Taylar Luckenbill each registered one.

Merklin finished the game with nine saves, increasing her total to 64 on the year.
