Mounties remain perfect in the Fall Classic, down Saint Michael’s 3-1

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior forward Kelsey Robertson (Holland, N.Y. / Holland) scored a pair of goals to lead the Mansfield University field hockey team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Saint Michael's College on day two of the Fall Classic at Kutztown University on Sunday, Sept. 4.

The Mountaineers improve to 2-0 overall, while Saint Michael's College falls to 0-2.

Senior Alex Esterling (Wilmington, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) scored a goal and dished out an assist for the second straight game to improve her point total to six on the young season.

Esterling hooked up with Robertson in the 18th minute to give the Mounties the lead, 1-0.

Robertson pushed the Mounties' advantage to 2-0 20 minutes later when she capitalized on a helper from junior Saramae Radel (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove).

Esterling then put the game away with her second goal of the season midway through the third quarter.

Saint Michael's scored in the 51st minute to cut the deficit to two, but the contest was already out of reach.

Esterling led the Mountaineers with a game-high five shots on goal, while Radel and junior Hannah Meyer (Kitchener, Ontario / Forest Heights) collected three each.

The Mountaineers' defense was elite for the second straight game as junior keeper August Lewis (Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) was only forced to make one save in her second victory in net on the year.

For Saint Michael's, Riley O'Conner made a game-high 11 saves in goal and Rees Lord scored their lone goal.

The Mountaineers host Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. for their home opener.
