MANSFIELD Pa-Â Junior
Kenedy Stroup (Millerstown, Pa. / Greenwood) scored two goals to lead the Mansfield University field hockey team on a valiant fourth quarter comeback, but Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) scored in overtime to spoil the Mounties home opener on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Karl Van Norman Field.
Four quarters couldn't decide the matchup between the Mountaineers (2-1 overall) and Crimson Hawks (2-0 overall), but IUP's Jessica Davidson scored the game winner less than a minute into overtime. The goal was initially called no goal due to a backswing before being overruled.Â
Trailing 2-0 in the third quarter Stroup collected her first goal after being set up by freshman
Lotte Dams (Bilthoven, Netherlands / Het Nieuwe Lyceum).Â
The Hawks would tally another goal before senior
Olivia Wagner (New Cumberland, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) would draw and connect on a penalty stroke to cut the lead to 3-2. Stroup scored ten seconds later to tie the game at 3-3 and force the game to overtime.Â
Indiana (PA) outshot the Mounties 12 (10) -11(6). Stroup had three shots and junior
Kelsey Robertson (Holland, N.Y. / Holland) and senior
Saramae Radel (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) each had two shots.
Â
Junior goalkeeper
August Lewis (Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) made a game high six saves.Â
The Mounties head back on the road as they travel to face Shippensburg UniversityÂ
on Wednesday Sept. 14.
