Field Hockey falls at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Sophomore Kelsey Robertson (Holland, N.Y. / Holland) scored her third goal of the season to lead the Mansfield University field hockey (4-3 overall), but it wasn't enough on the road as Lindenwood University (4-3 overall) scored three times to secure a 3-1 non-conference victory on Sunday, Sept. 25.

After a scoreless first half, the lions scored two quick goals in the third quarter to take the first lead of the game, 2-0.

However, Robertson found the back of the cage in the 39th minute off a pass from junior Saramae Radel (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) to cut the deficit in half.

The Lions connected on an insurance goal in the sixth minute of the third period and shut the Mounties out the rest of the way to secure the victory.

The Mounties led by two in shots and one in shots on goal, but weren't able to capitalize on scoring opportunities to claw back into the game.

Radel and freshman Lotte Dams led the Mounties with three shots. Radel finished with a team-high two shots on goal.

Sophomore August Lewis (Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) was dealt the loss in net, allowing three goals in the 60 minutes, while making two saves on 12 shots.

Kyla Cooke earned the win in cage for Lindenwood, making six saves on 14 shots faced, and limiting the Mounties to the one score. All three goals for Lindenwood came from different athletes.

The Mounties host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division foe Kutztown University in a non-conference game at Karl Van Norman Field beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
