Field Hockey Rolls to 5-0 Victory Over Maryville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Junior Kalin Duke (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) dished out three assists, junior Saramae Radel (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) scored twice, and sophomore August Lewis (Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) pitched a shutout to lead the Mansfield University field hockey team (4-2 overall) to a 5-0 non-conference victory at Maryville University (2-4 overall) on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24.

The Mountaineers have outscored their opponents, 10-0, over the last two games.

Duke's three assists fall just on shy of a tie for third in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history record book.

The Mountaineers took a 3-0 lead into halftime, scoring all three goals in the first quarter. Duke set up Radel off a penalty corner in the third minute to give the Mounties an early lead.

Duke hooked up with Radel again in the sixth minute, before sophomore Kenedy Stroup (Millerstown, Pa. / Greenwood) won a scramble in front of the cage to score her sixth goal of the season and extend the Mountaineer advantage to 3-0.

After a scoreless second quarter, Duke and Radel executed another penalty corner by finding an open junior Hannah Meyer (Kitchener, Ontario / Forest Heights), who beat the keeper to make it 4-0 with just over 16 minutes to go.

Freshman Leah Toskey (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) scored the first girl of her young career midway through the fourth quarter off an assist from senior Alex Esterling (Wilmington, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) to round out the scoring.

Lewis secures her fourth win of the season on her second consecutive shutout. Lewis has a shutout in three of four victories.

Esterling and Radel both finished with a team-high three shots on goal.

Maryville's offense was limited to one shot on goal. Liz Bierhals took the loss in net for the Saints, finishing with seven saves while facing 21 shots.

The Mountaineers conclude their trip to Missouri tomorrow morning, Sunday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. when they take on Lindenwood University in non-conference action.
