SHIPPENSBURG Pa.- Seniors
Assaf Lowengart and
Samuel Freedman both left the yard but the Mansfield University Baseball team drop a pair to Shippensburg 8-1, 15-4 on Saturday April 30.
The Mounties fall to 20-22, 11-10 in the PSAC East and will need assistance for a playoff push. Shippensburg came into the game second in the conference and move to 24-20, 14-6 PSAC East.
Down 2-0 after the first inning, Lowengart picked up his ninth home run of the year to cut the lead. It would be the only run the Mounties would score in that first game.
Shippensburg removed all doubt with a five run fifth inning and added another in the sixth to win 8-1.
Senior
Hunter DePrimo went 4.2 innings allowing nine hits and three earned runs while collecting two strikeouts.
Game two started out similar with the raiders plating a pair of runs in the first inning. Mansfield would claw back as a Lowengart double brought in
Zachary Shertzer, and Freedmans' longball to right field gave the Mounties a 3-2 lead.
Mansfield added another run as senior
Cole Shomper brought in Sophomore
Dylan Mercedes to lead 4-2.
The Raiders tied it up at four in the bottom of the inning. They ran away with the game using four run innings in the fifth and seventh, and tacking on three more in the eighth for a final score of 15-4.
Freshman
Austin Lewis gets saddled with the loss, tossing 2.2 innings allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out four.
The Mounties return for a non-conference road matchup at Saint Rose on Tuesday May3, and have one more regular season PSAC series with Millersville as the opponent next Friday and Saturday.
