Mounties Offense Continues Hot Streak, Split with Non-Conference D’Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. -  The Mansfield Baseball offense continues their hot streak in another double digit run total beating D'Youville College 11-3 in game one of a non-conference duel on Tuesday April 26. They dropped game two 3-2 in walk off fashion.

Senior Assaf Lowengart launched another home run and collected four RBIs. Senior Ben Osborne went 3-3 with two RBIs in the first matchup.
Junior Scott Poulson pitched five solid innings for the Mountaineers, only allowing three earned runs and two strike outs.

The Mounties (20-19. 11-7 PSAC) attacked immediately scoring six runs in the first inning. Lowengart brought in senior Brittain Shander for the first run. Seniors Samuel Freedman, Osborne, Brady Mengel, sophomore Zachary Shertzer at bats brought in four straight runs. Sophomore Marcus Nales got the final run on a sacrifice fly.

Mansfield held that lead into the fourth inning when Lowengart blasted a three-run home run to centerfield to bring the lead to 9-0. The Saints would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Mansfield would still lead 9-3.

The Mountaineers would add two final runs in the sixth inning on a junior Josh Farina scored Shander on a fielder's choice. Osborne would score Lowengart on a sacrifice fly and the Mounties would take the game 11-3.

In game two, it remained scoreless until Mengel hit an RBI double down the left field line scoring Shertzer, and was brought in himself on a Sophomore Logan Wentz RBI single.

Senior Justin Marykwas pitched a gem for Mansfield lasting six innings, tossing seven strikeouts, and only allowing a single run; that came in the sixth inning.

The Saints managed to take the game in the bottom of the seventh as George Farid was able to single off of freshman Austin Lewis and plate two runs to steal the game 3-2.
