KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Sophomore
Eric Gustofson paced the Mansfield Mountaineers on the mound and runners were able to take advantage of opportunities to win game two 7-3 on Sunday, April 10 against Kutztown. Mounties dropped game one 2-0.
The Mounties improve to 11-17 and 4-7 in the conference. Mansfield was able to take advantage and score four of their seven runs off errors in the second game.
Gustofson tossed six solid innings tallying up five strikeouts and only allowing three runs. Gustofson improved to 2-4 on the year. Freshman
Austin Lewis closed out the final three scoreless innings, collecting his fourth save of the year.
Senior
Samuel Freedman got things started in the first Inning when he shot a single to right field to plate sophomore
Shay Gustafson. Kutztown (9-20 4-10 PSAC) would tie it with a run of their own.
Mansfield would retake the lead in the third inning as senior
Ben Osborne drove in senior
Assaf Lowengart to take the lead 2-1.
The Golden Bears retook the lead heading into the seventh inning. Gustafson was able to reach on an error that scored senior
Brittain Shander knotting it up at three apiece. Osborne gave the Mounties the lead for good, collecting his second RBI, on a fielder's choice. They added an insurance run in that inning as Lowengart scored on a wild pitch.
Two final insurance runs came in the ninth inning as Freedman scored on a wild pitch and pinch runner, freshman
Ryan Scott, scored on an error.
In game one, senior
Hunter DePrimo tossed a gem, sriking out seven leaving him only seven strikeouts away from the all-time record. He only gave up two runs on three hits. The Mountaineers were unable to drive in a run, leaving eight runners on base.
Mansfield returns to action on Monday April 11, at Corning Community College to close out the series with Kutztown.
