LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second straight season, juniors
Hannah Meyer and
Alex Esterling were named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) All-Conference Team, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 17.
Meyer (Defender) was named to the second team and Esterling (Forward) was named to the third team. Meyer and Esterling were both named to the PSAC Second-Team in 2021 as sophomores.
The anchor of the Mountaineers' defense, Meyer helped lead the unit to the fourth best opponents scoring average (1.72) in the top field hockey conference in NCAA DII.
Meyer also found the back of the cage three times and dished out three assists for a total of nine points. Meyer led the team in defensive saves with four, which finished second in the conference and tied for fifth in the conference.
Meyer now has 11 defensive saves in her career, which is tied for the sixth best in program history.
The top Mountaineer goal scorer, Esterling found the back of the cage 12 times in 16 games, which was tied for seventh in the nation and fifth in the PSAC. Her 28 points, which sits just outside the program-record books top-10, was tied for sixth in the conference.
Esterling was also sixth in the conference in total shots (70) and fourth in shots per game (4.38). The Wilmington, Del. native also dished out four assists, landing fourth on the team.
Esterling scored four goals in the Mountaineers 5-0 victory over Slippery Rock on Oct. 12, tying
Taryn Schawillie '13 and
Kristi Swartz '03 single-game program record.
The Mounties, who reached No. 9 in the NFHCA National Ranking, finished the season 8-10 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
