Lewis Records Shutout and Wagner Scores to Lead Field Hockey to PSAC Victory Over Mercyhurst

Sophomore August Lewis tied the Mountaineers' single-season shutout record on Tuesday.
Box Score ERIE, Pa. – Sophomore goalkeeper August Lewis (Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) pitched a shutout and senior Olivia Wagner (New Cumberland, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) scored to lead the Mansfield University field hockey team to a 1-0 road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory over Mercyhurst University on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 1.

The Mounties improve to 8-8 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC, while the Lakers fall to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in conference.

Lewis made her lone save on a Lakers' penalty stroke to preserve the tie. Lewis recorded her sixth shutout of the season to match standouts Brianna DeLuca's '09 and Brittany Ryan's '20 program record.

After a scoreless first-half, senior Wagner got the Mounties on the board with the eventual game-winning goal in the third period. Assisting on the score was sophomore Kenedy Stroup (Millerstown, Pa. / Greenwood).

The Lakers were limited to 0 shots the rest of the way and were held off the scoreboard to seal the Mountaineers' victory.

The Mounties outshot Mercyhurst 16-1 on the afternoon.

For the Lakers, Kayla Desormeau made a game-high eight saves, but landed the loss in cage.

A full box score will be provided when it is made available.

The Mounties travel to West Chester University on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. in PSAC action.
