Sprint football falls at Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. -  The Mansfield University sprint football team (4-2, 2-2 CSFL North) fell to Army West Point (5-1, 3-0 CSFL North), 54-6, in Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Northern Division action on the road on Friday, Oct. 21.

Sophomore quarterback Cahsid Raymond rushed for over 100 yards for the sixth straight game, gaining 136 yards on ground on 13 carries, averaging over 10 yards a clip. Raymond had a long rush of 43.

Turnovers proved to be the difference, as the Mounties coughed up two fumbles and threw five interceptions to set up the West Point offense.

Army built a 17-0 lead in the first quarter before Logan Shull drilled a 37-yard field goal to make it 17-3 with 5:11 to go in the first half.

However, Army scored twice before the break to extend their lead to 31-3.

The Mounties scored the first points of the second half with a 27-yard field goal from Shull to make it 31-6 at the 10:01 mark in the third quarter. However, Army found paydirt 40 seconds later and went on to score two more times and register a safety to put the game out of reach.

The Mountaineers had three players finish with double-digit tackles, led by a career-high from sophomore Gavin Hinman and freshman Bobby Dell. Senior Matt Robert added 10 tackles and a sack.

Mikal Willeke threw for 255 and three touchdowns to lead Army West Point's offense. Army West Point rushed for two scores, but Donovan Mannion hauled in four passes for 107 yards and three scores.

The Mounties are back in action on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. when they travel to University of Pennsylvania.
