Women’s Soccer falls on the road at ESU

Box Score EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Mansfield University women's soccer team (2-8-1, 0-8-1 PSAC East) fell, 3-0, at East Stroudsburg University (7-2-2, 5-2-2 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 2.
 
The Mounties shut out the Warriors in the second half, but ESU struck for three scores in the first half to run away with the victory.
 
Freshman Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa. / Pleasant Valley) finished with a game-high seven saves for MU, while junior Emily Smith (Lehman, Pa. / Lake-Lehman) registered the only shot on goal.
 
Rebecca Kotula, Emily Wineburg, and Ella Connolly scored the goals for the Warriors, Emmy Clarkson made one save and earned the victory in net. All three ESU goals came off assists.
 
ESU's offense put the pressure on early and finished with 10 shots to the Mountaineers one.
 
The Mounties remain on the road and will visit Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. for a PSAC East match.
