Mounties fall at #2 West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Mansfield University women's soccer team (2-10-2, 0-10-2 PSAC) fell to No. 2 West Chester University (12-0, 11-0 PSAC East), 3-0, on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 12.
 
Freshman Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa. / Pleasant Valley) finished with a career-high 17 saves, giving her the fourth highest single-game total in program history.
 
The Mountaineer defense withstood an aggressive Golden Rams' offense that finished the contest ahead 20-1 in shots on goal and 12-2 on corners.
 
The Golden Rams built a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals in the 28th and 33rd minute, before adding an insurance score in the 52nd minute of the second half.
 
Jacqueline Hug, Maggie Lena, and Lauren Corless scored the goals for the Golden Rams. Hayley McGee made one stop in net to earn the goalkeeper victory.
 
Junior Taylar Luckenbill (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) fired off the Mounties' lone shot on goal.
 
The Mounties host Kutztown University on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:15 to conclude a Pink Out triple header at Karl Van Norman Field.
