ERIE, Pa. – After digging a two-goal deficit in the opening period, the Mounties responded with four goals over the remaining 46 minutes to upend Mercyhurst University, 4-3 on the road in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 8.

The Mountaineers are out to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2018.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Mounties responded with three unanswered goals from sophomores
Ashtyn Price,
Maria Tice and
Kalin Duke to take a 3-2 lead heading into the final period. The scores were the third of the season for Price, second for Duke and first for Price through just three games.

However, the Lakers (0-2 overall) responded with the equalizer in the 55
th minute to knot things at three.

Not wasting anytime, the Mounties connected on the eventual game-winner less than a minute later when sophomore
Saramae Radel dished out her team-leading third assist to sophomore
Alex Esterling, who beat the keeper with her team-leading fourth goal.

As they have done in all three games this season, the Mountaineer defense stood strong during the final 3:35 to close out the victory.

The Mounties outshot Mercyhurst, 19-9, with 12 of those shots coming on goal. The Mounties also won the battle of corners, 9-4. Tice and sophomore
Hannah Meyer led the Mounties with two shots on goal each.

Sophomore
August Lewis earned her first save in the cage, making five saves in the full 60 minutes. Kayla Desormeau was handed the loss in goal for the Lakers, while making seven saves.

Katie Goodenow, Evelien Hulshof and Jenna Cavalieri scored the three goals for the Lakers.

The Mounties will remain on the road and will travel to Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 11 for a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
