KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Kalin Duke scored her fourth goal of the season, but the Mansfield University field hockey team was stiffened by three-first half goals by No. 5 Kutztown University, falling 3-1 in a rematch of the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 11.
With the loss the Mounties are still off to a promising 3-1 start, while the Golden Bears improve to 4-0.
Duke, who scored three goals as a freshman, already surpassed that total when she found the back of the net in the 54
th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Golden Bears struck first in the first period and added two insurance goals in the second to build the 3-0 advantage. The Mounties did not allow a goal in the second half and cut KU's shots from 10 to six, but the three-goal deficit proved to be too much to overcome.
Duke and sophomore
Hannah Meyer registered shots on goal for the Mounties.
Sophomore
August Lewis faced 10 shots and made seven saves in cage for the Mounties. Katie Dotterweich made one save to earn the victory for the Golden Bears.
Alyssa Donato, Rachel Dusman and Juliana Donato scored for Kutztown.
The Mounties are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. when Bloomsburg University comes to town for a non-conference game at Karl Van Norman Field.
