JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Emily Smith scored in her first collegiate game and the Mansfield University women's soccer team did not allow a goal in the second half, but University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown used three first-half goals to secure a 3-1 home victory on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 5.
Trailing 3-0 coming out of the break, the Mounties (1-0 overall) backline was flawless in the second half and did not allow another Mountain Cats' (1-0 overall) score.
The Mounties found life in the 82
nd minute when freshman
Kerrah Clymer connected with Smith who found the back of the net for the first time in her career.
The Mounties won the second-half advantage, 1-0 and finished the game with four different players registering a shot attempt.
Lydia Roman, Haley Neidig and Emily Esser scored the goals for UPJ.
Senior
Stephanie Moir fought off 19 shots and made six saves for the Mounties, while Megan Giesey made one stop for UPJ.
The Mounties host West Chester University for their home opener at 1 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 8 at the MU Soccer Field.
