Alex Esterling netted goals for the second straight game to lead the Mansfield University field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on the final day of the Dr. Art Degenero Classic at Karl Van Norman Field on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 5.

The Mounties (2-0 overall) got on the board early in the first when junior
Olivia Wagner sent a perfect lead pass to Esterling, who connected for her third goal in two games. It took Esterling just two games to match her goal total from her entire freshman season in 2019.

Radel capitalized on a penalty shot in the closing seconds of the second period to extend the Mountaineers' lead to 2-0 heading into the break.

Price continued the Mountaineer theme of the weekend as she scored her second goal in as many days after collecting a rebound off a shot from Radel and firing a shot left of the keeper.

The Mountaineer defense was stellar for the second straight game, holding the Owls (0-2 overall) to just two shots, while junior
Hailey Boda (2-0) and
August Lewis combined for their second straight shutout. The Mounties fired off 24 shots, 17 of which were on goal, while Esterling led the squad with five.

Janelle Ward made 14 saves in the cage for the Owls.

The Mounties begin a two-game road stint when they head to Erie, Pa. to take on Mercyhurst University in non-conference action at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
