MANSFIELD, Pa.- Sophomore
Emily Smith netted her second goal of the season to lead the Mansfield University women's soccer team and Millersville University scored in the closing seconds of regulation to highlight an exciting 1-1 double overtime Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East contest on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Karl Van Norman Field.
The Mounties move to 1-4-2 overall and 0-3-2 in conference, while the Marauders move to 2-3-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the PSAC East.
The first half was a deadlock defensive effort with both teams being limited to nine total shots.
Mansfield finally broke through in the 80th minute when Smith found an opening to give the Mounties the 1-0 lead. It was Smith's second goal of the season.
The Marauders, however, connected on the equalizer in the dying seconds of the second half on a goal from Savannah Rennix.
Millersville fired three shots to the Mounties one in the two overtime periods, but neither team found the back of the net to end the game in a draw.
Senior goalkeeper
Stephanie Moir had five saves in net for the Mounties. Freshman
Katelyn Rueppel finished with a team-high three shots and Smith added two.
The Mounties will return to the pitch on Saturday Oct. 2
when nationally-ranked Kutztown University comes to town for a 5 p.m. conference match at the Karl Van Norman Field.
