MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women's soccer team limited the nation's fourth-ranked team to one score, but the first-half goal by Kutztown University proved to be enough to leave Karl Van Norman Field with a 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East victory on Saturday night, Oct. 2.
The Mounties fall to 1-5-2, 0-4-2, while the No. 4 Golden Bears remain perfect at 8-0, 6-0 PSAC East.
The Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead in the 22
nd minute with a goal from Kayla Argen.
Kutztown dominated possession in the first half and fired off 12 shots, but were limited to the one score by a relentless Mountaineer defense.
The Mountaineers' defense remained locked in throughout the second half and did not allow a goal despite KU taking 11 shots with three coming on goal.
The Mounties best chance came in the second half when freshman
Katelyn Rueppel broke through the heart of the Golden Bears' defense and fired a shot that went off the fingertips of the outstretch keeper.
Sophomore
Faith Cameron made seven stops in the full 90 minutes, while limiting one of the nations top teams to one score. Four Mountaineers fired off shots, led by two from freshman
Sydney Shatzer.
Emme Wolfel earned the win in net for Kutztown, finishing with two saves.
The Mounties travel to Shippensburg University on Wednesday, Oct. 6 for a 4 p.m. PSAC East match. Â
