SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Katelyn Rueppel scored in the 75th minute to give the Mansfield University a late lead, but Shippensburg University scored the equalizer with three minutes to go in regulation, before connecting on the game-winner in overtime to escape with a 2-1 home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East victory on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
The Mounties (1-6-2, 0-5-2 PSAC East) struck first in the second half of the defensive showdown when Rueppel burried her team-leading third goal of the season off the helper from sophomore Taylar Luckenbill.
However, Shippensburg's (4-5-1, 4-3-1 PSAC East) Kelli Dunagan played hero with just under three minutes remaining, knotting the game at one off an assist from Kelli Dunagan.
Both teams were nearly even in shots after the first half, but the Red Raiders out shot the Mounties by 10 in the second and overtime period to mount the comeback.
In net, senior Stephanie Moir finished with nine saves in 97:58 minutes. Sophomore Makenna Sutherland led the Mountaineers with three shots, with two of them coming on goal.
Kendra Barlow earned the win in goal for the Red Raiders, finishing with three saves, while O'Donnell finished with a game-high five shots.
The Mounties travel to Lock Haven University on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. for a PSAC East match.
