SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Mansfield University field hockey team shut out NCAA DII's top-ranked team on the road for the final 53 minutes of action, but Shippensburg University scored twice in the opening seven minutes to earn a 2-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 25.
The Mountaineers fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference, but have been through the gauntlet after facing the No. 1 and 2 ranked teams in the nation in back-to-back games. The Red Raiders improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC.Â
Shippensburg's Jazmin Petrantonio scored in the fifth minute and Jenna Sluymer scored in the sixth minute to secure the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead in the opening period. Mya Kemp was credited with an assist on the score by Sluymer.
Lindsay Tripodo made three stops to secure the shutout and the Red Raider victory.
Shippensburg outshot the Mounties, 27-6 and finished with 15 corners compared to the Mounties two.
Sophomore
August Lewis continued her run of outstanding games in net for the Mounties, notching her second straight double-digit save effort, finishing with 16 in 60 minutes. Lewis had 10 saves in the third quarter.

Kenedy Stroup.
The Mounties are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. at Van Norman Field when Mercyhurst University comes to town for a PSAC contest. The Mounties downed the Lakers, 4-3 on Sept. 8 in a non-conference game.
