Justice Smith matched a career high 19 points to lead the Mansfield University men's basketball team that fell to Slippery Rock in PSAC crossover action 82-67 on Friday Dec. 3
rd.
Mansfield drops to 1-6 on the year and 0-1 in the PSAC. The Rock improves to 4-2 (1-0) on the year.
Mansfield struggled on the glass getting out rebounded 51-27, including giving up 17 offensive rebounds. Slippery Rock outscored the Mounties 12-3 in second chance points.
Smith was 7-of-17 from the field shooting including 2-of-4 beyond the ark. He also lead the team on the glass collecting nine rebounds.
Senior
Eli Alvin and sophomore guard Jax Farrell both hit double figures, scoring 12 and 10 respectively. Alvin was 3-of-7 shooting but was a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line. Farrell was 5-of-12 from the floor.
Mansfield played a strong first half holding the Rock to 30 points to be tied at the half. The Rock pulled away in the second half ending the game with a 43-27 run after five minutes in the second half.
Slippery Rock was led by Senior Tyler Frederick hitting a season high in points (27) and rebounds (18). Johnathan McFall notched a double-double scoring 14 and corralling 10 boards.
The Mounties are back in action on Saturday night, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. as they complete a four game in six day stretch welcoming Edinboro University to Decker Gymnasium.
