ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman
Henry Polanco ran the second fastest 60-meter dash in program history to highlight a day that saw ten PR's and two PSAC qualifying marks set at the Cornell Southern Tier Collegiate Open on Saturday Jan. 11.
Polonco finished second in the 60-meter dash with a PSAC qualifying time of 7.06. That time is .04 seconds of Justin Johnsons record set back in 2012. Polonco was joined by teammates
Mamadou Diallo,
Ramddy Melendez, and
Terrance Quaker in the top seven, finishing fourth, sixth and seventh respectively. Diallo's 60-meter time of 7.31 is a new PR.
Polonco (23.52), Quaker (23.79) and Diallo (23.83) caught new PR's in the 200-meter dash finishing sixth-through-eighth.
On the women's side, junior
Lyndsey Payne started the day hot for the Mountaineers compiling a new indoor best 3000-meter run time of 10:56.70, placing second. Freshman
Rylie Mong started her career off with a bang as she hit a PSAC qualifying mark in the pole vault of 3.20 meters.
The mile run saw two Mountie freshmen set new PR's with
Lauran Ensminger running a 5:58.78 and finishing second and
Kevin Heeman led the men by finishing third with a time of 4:39.95. Heeman collected another PR in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.17. Junior
Donoven Cook was the final individual PR of the day hitting a 6.17-meter mark in the long jump.
The lone Mountaineer victory came in the women's 4x800 meter relay as the team of
Carly Daniels,
Shelby Alexander,
Mackenzie Lamorte, and
Brooke Hinman finished with a time of 11:34.73.
The Mounties return to action Saturday, Jan. 24
th when the men's squad travels to Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio and the women's team travels to the Highlander Invitational in Houghton N.Y.
