MANSFIELD – Mansfield's
David Butler rushed for a Mansfield sprint football single-game record of 254 yards, but the Mounties came up short in a 25-22 loss to Chestnut Hill in the home opener Saturday night.

Butler rushed 25 times with an average of 10.1 yards per carry and had a long of 74 yards. His 254 yards far outpaces the previous record of 153 yards set by Aren Harris against Chestnut Hill in 2015. Butler added a 12-yard reception for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Koby Peacock threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns for the Mounties.
D.J. McLean hauled in three passes for 94 yards including a spectacular one-handed touchdown grab in the second quarter.
John Rogers was the third Mountie with a touchdown reception with his scoring grab in the third quarter.

Matt Roberts made 10 tackles with six solo efforts, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a pass deflection.

Terrance Quaker was on air patrol with an interception and four pass break-ups.

Griffin quarterback Michael Marino was 17-of-34 for 254 yards through the air with three touchdowns. Sef Penson cracked the century mark in rushing with 22 attempts for 101 yards.

Mansfield totaled 460 yards of offense with 310 coming on the ground.

Chestnut Hill jumped out to a 13-0 lead before Mansfield scored on McLean's grab just before halftime to make it 13-6. The Griffins increased their lead to 19-6 before Rogers and Butler caught touchdown passes to give Mansfield its first lead at 22-19.

Chestnut Hill scored the go-ahead touchdown with under four minutes to play in the game.
