Mansfield Track & Field Teams Have Dominant Day at Millersville Metrics

MILLERSVILLE – The Mansfield University track & field teams had a day for the ages on Saturday at the Millersville Metrics, as they compiled a combined 11 new personal bests, two PSAC marks, and a NCAA provisional mark.

Freshman Caden Fisher got the day started for the Mounties, when he recorded a new PR in the men's 110-meter hurdles at 16.73 seconds. Fisher was followed by fellow freshman Vince McNeil who recorded two new personal bests on the day, first in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.20 seconds, then the 200-meter dash where McNeil compiled a 24.89 second finish.

Olivia Moats started her outdoor season with a bang, compiling her best pole vault of her Mansfield career with a 2.55-meter height. Moats was followed by senior Kenzie Jones, who placed first out of ten runners in the women's 3K-steeplechase at 11:48.61.

Lyndsey Payne would show that McNeil and Fisher were not the only underclassmen looking to make an impact on the day, as she would hit a PSAC mark and PR in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:55.09. Her time was good enough for a top-five finish in a field of 54 runners.

Ryan Morrissette got things done in the men's portion of the 1,500-meter run, when he recorded a 4:30.88 finish, good enough for a new PR. Morrissette would not stop there, recording yet another PR in the men's 800-meter dash compiling a 2:12.24 finish. Jordan Holmes would join Morrissette in claiming a new PR in the 800-meter dash, coming in with a time of 2:06.19.

Nicholas Auchenbach and Momadue Diallo joined the new PR party in the men's 200-meter dash, compiling new personal bests with times of 22.85 and 23.05 seconds respectively. Rochelle Myers wouldn't be denied in the women's 400-meter dash, recording a new PR at 1:10.98.

Quincy Amabile would kick his way to a solid top-15 finish in the men's 1,500-meter run in a field of 58 runners. Amabile narrowly missed a new personal best coming in with a time of 4:11.40.

The day ended with Hunter Watkins doing, well, what Hunter Watkins does. Watkins would hit not only another PSAC mark, but his third NCAA provisional mark of the season with a distance of 62.40-meters in the men's javelin throw. It was the sixth-best throw in Watkins career as he continues to build towards the PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Mansfield on May 9th to the 11th.

The Mountaineers will return to action next Sunday, April 14th as they travel to the campus of Bucknell University to take part in the Bison Outdoor Classic.
