Mounties Fall at Defending PSAC Champion East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG – Garrett Cook hit four 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 16 points, but turnovers proved to be costly for Mansfield in a 93-63 loss at defending PSAC Champion East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors opened the game scoring 11 unanswered points to force a Mansfield timeout. Taylor Sweeney and Mike Rell got the scoring started for the Mounties with back-to-back trifectas.

East Stroudsburg quickly built a sizeable lead with the help of its full court pressure, jumping out to a 22-6 advantage. However, 3-pointers by Cook and Tyler Moffe kick started a 13-0 run by the Mountaineers to pull within three points at 22-19.

Minutes later, another Moffe trifecta brought the ESU lead down to two points at 26-24. The Warriors outscored Mansfield 15-3 over the final seven minutes of the half to take a 39-27 advantage into the break.

The Mounties opened the second half on a 7-1 run to pull within six points for the first of three occasions. However, ESU would outscore Mansfield 43-22 over the final 16 minutes to pull away for the win.

Cook hit four or more 3-pointers for the sixth time this season, going 4-of-6 from deep to pace the Mounties. Moffe recorded 15 points and eight rebounds and Rell matched his season high with 12 points. Eli Alvin was the fourth Mountie in double-figure scoring with 11 points.

Nick Giordano hit five treys on his way to scoring a game-high 23 points for the Warriors. Josh Williams added 21 points and seven boards.

The Mountaineers were hampered by 29 turnovers with ESU scoring 40 points off giveaways.

Mansfield travels to West Chester on Wednesday.
