MANSFIELD – Senior
Tyler Moffe drilled a trifecta to tie the game at 61 with 4:10 remaining, but sixth-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania closed out the game on a 15-2 run to leave Decker Gymnasium with a 76-63 PSAC victory on Military Appreciation Day on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 7.
As a result of a slow start, the Mounties (2-6, 1-2 PSAC) trailed, 40-25 with 2:31 to go in the first half. Mansfield cut the lead to 11 heading into the break and opened up the second period on a 9-0 run thanks to seven straight points by senior
Jahmir Green to make it 43-41 with 17:06 remaining.
The Mounties never trailed by double-digits again and cut the lead to one possession four more times before the Moffe 3-pointer tied the game for the first time since the opening tip. Mansfield outscored the Crimson Hawks (7-0, 3-0 PSAC) by 18 points in the second half until falling victim to IUP's final 15-2 run.
Mansfield trailed in field goals by just two (28-26), but the Crimson Hawks won the 3-point battle, 10-5 and made 10 free throws to the Mounties' five.
A game removed from recording his 600-career rebound, senior
Trevor English pulled in 19 rebounds which is the most in a single-game since
Joe Bell '14 had 22 against Clarion in 2013. The senior center also netted 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and was 3-of-4 at the line.
Moffe dished out a game-high six assists to go along with eight points and junior
Garrett Cook was a cool 5-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from three, totaling 14 points. Green added nine points and three assists and junior
Jonathan Ward contributed four points with the second unit.
Armoni Foster (22) and Malik Miller (20) each finished over 20 points to lead the Crimson Hawk offense. Miller added 11 rebounds and was 5-of-13 from 3-point land.
The Mounties return right before Christmas break to continue their stretch of six straight home games when they host Gannon University in PSAC action on Friday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. inside Decker Gymnasium.
