MANSFIELD – Mansfield opened the game on a 13-0 run, but West Chester rebounded and took control the rest of the way, defeating the Mountaineers 87-56 at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Mansfield (1-12, 0-7 PSAC) came out firing in the first half, scoring the game's first 13 points on the back of three straight 3-pointers by junior guards Tyler Moffe and Garrett Cook. West Chester (10-5, 6-2 PSAC) would respond after the under 16 media timeout, outscoring the Mountaineers 32-9 to close out the half.
West Chester continued the high-tempo pace in the second-half, stretching its lead to as far as 33 before closing out the Mountaineers 87-56. The Golden Rams shot 61% from the field in the second half, compared to only 31% in the first half. The Mountaineers finished the game shooting 35% from the field.
West Chester was led in scoring by sophomore guard Evan-Eric Longino, who finished the night with 19 points to go along with four rebounds. He was followed by Frank Rokins and Malik Jackson who totaled 14 and 12 points respectively.
Mansfield was led by junior guard Tyler Moffe, who finished with 17 points and five boards. Nysir Marshburn was the second leading scorer on the night for the Mountaineers, posting 14 points. Taylor Sweeney compiled a double-double, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 12th as they travel to Millersville with tip-off set for 3 p.m.
