Kutztown Uses Fast Start to Hand Mansfield 84-64 Loss

MANSFIELD – Kutztown opened the game on a 15-2 run and never looked back handing Mansfield an 84-64 loss at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The scoring started early and often from the Golden Bears (11-7, 5-5 PSAC) scoring the game's first ten points and stretching their lead to as far as 21 in the first half. Kutztown was led on offense by a red-hot Anthony Lee, who had 24 points in the first-half, including going 6 of 7 from beyond the arc.

The Mounties fought to stay in contention with Kutztown on the back of 11 first-half points from Taylor Sweeney. Back-to-back Garrett Cook 3-pointers brought the score to 50-33 heading into halftime. Kutztown shot 59% from the field compared to the Mounties who shot 39%.

The second-half featured more of the same from the Golden Bears, who would maintain their 20 point lead, going on to defeat the Mounties 84-64.

Kutztown was led in scoring by redshirt-senior Anthony Lee, who finished the night with 37 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Lee was followed by junior forward Josh Townsend, who finished with a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with 15 points. The Golden Bears shot 51% from the field including 47% from 3-point range.

Mansfield was led in scoring by guards Taylor Sweeney and Tyler Moffe who finished with 14 and 11 points respectively. Junior Mike Rell finished with a career-high 8 points on the night.

Mansfield returns to action this Friday at Decker Gymnasium to take on Slippery Rock, with tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
