Mansfield, PA – The Mansfield Mountaineers women's soccer team hosts the Clarion University Golden Eagles for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup at Mansfield University on Sunday, September 23rd. With game time set for 1 p.m., the Mounties and Golden Eagles are both trying to find their groove and gain some momentum as they approach the halfway points of their seasons.
The Mountaineers should be well-rested and prepared for the game as their last game was last weekend, giving them the whole week to make adjustments and scout the Golden Eagles in search of their first win of the season.
For this match against Clarion, the Mountaineers will participate in "Play With Pride Week," a nationwide initiative from United Soccer Coaches.
The Mounties will be joining forces with the United Soccer Coaches LGBT & Allies Advocacy Group, as well as with teams across the country, by wearing rainbow laces. Mansfield is proud of the sport's long history of diversity and inclusion. On Sunday, they will show their support for LGBT players, coaches, staff, referees and fans everywhere. This represents sending the message that every person, on every team, is valued and respected.
"Play for Inclusion / Play for Diversity / For Our Players / And Our Coaches / To Change the Game!"
Clarion enters Sunday after picking up their first win this week. On Wednesday, the Golden Eagles faced Ursuline College and took a 2-1 road victory from the Arrows. Mackenzie Sheldon opened the game up when she scored her second goal of the season, putting Clarion ahead 1-0 in the 37th minute, however Ursiline tied it up before the first half concluded. It was Meliah Roman who then broke the deadlock as she scored the game-winning goal with less than six minutes remaining in the contest.
Krista Mosi and Brigid Stermal have split time quite evenly in net for Clarion through the first seven games. For Mansfield, freshman keeper - and the team-leader in saves -
Stephanie Moir won't be active, so fellow first-year
Brianna Roys will defend the net in her place. Roys made her collegiate debut last week versus the Griffins, and stopped six shots in 28 minutes of play.
The Mountaineers then host Millersville this Wednesday, September, 26th, at 4 p.m.
