MANSFIELD –
Larissa Motts gave Mansfield an early 1-0 lead over No. 1 Shippensburg, but the Raiders came away with a 6-3 win at Karl Van Norman Field on Saturday.

The game between two PSAC opponents did not count for the conference standings.

Motts put Mansfield (4-2, 0-0 PSAC) ahead of the back-to-back defending National Champions when she took a
Christie Buyer pass and beat the keeper left for her fourth goal of the year. Motts is currently tied for third in the PSAC in goals scored.

Shippensburg (4-1, 0-0 PSAC) quickly answered back with Kelly Shulenberger's goal in the ninth minute to tie the game at 1-1. Shulenberger's score began a string of five unanswered goals by the Raiders, including three by PSAC leading scorer Jazmin Petrantonio.

In the 53
rd minute, Buyer cut the Mountaineer's deficit to 5-2 with her unassisted goal off a rebounded shot. It was her third of the season.

Shippensburg got one back in the 60
th minute, but
Amber Prince scored the Mountaineers third of the day on her third goal of the season minutes later. Motts was credited with the assist.

Shots in the game were even with both sides totaling 27. The Raiders put 20 shots on goal to Mansfield's 15. The Mountaineers, who lead the nation in penalty corners, held a 10-8 advantage in the game.

The three goals by the Mounties were the second most allowed to an opponent by Shippensburg this season. Mansfield has scored at least two goals in all six games.

The Mountaineers travel to Kutztown on Tuesday.
