Mounties Fall in Game One at Kutztown; Game Two Halted Due to Rain

KUTZTOWN – Mansfield fell to Kutztown 4-2 in the opener and held a 4-1 lead in game two before rain halted the contest in the fifth inning on Saturday afternoon.

Kutztown (16-17, 10-11 PSAC East) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one before The Mountaineers evened the score in the top of the third with Owen Lukens driving in Carlos Espinosa on a sacrifice fly.

The Golden Bears regained the lead at 3-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Zach Merkle cut the Mansfield (9-27, 3-18 PSAC East) lead to two runs in the sixth by driving in Tyler Guidos, but the Mounties were unable to rally.

Michael Hunter earned the win on the mound with Hunter DePrimo taking the loss.

In game two, neither side was able to push across a run until Colby Schearer delivered a two-out single to plate Brady Mengel in the top of the fourth. Lukens drove in another with an RBI single to score Camren Ney before Guidos drew a bases-loaded walk to give Mansfield the 3-0 advantage.

Kutztown got one back in the bottom of the inning, but a Zach Merkle double brought in Dio Infante to extend the Mountie lead to 4-1.

The game was halted in the top of the fifth inning due to heavy rainfall and will be completed at a later date.
