Mounties Drop Two to Bloomsburg

MANSFIELD – Mansfield softball was edged 6-3 after Bloomsburg barreled to an 8-0 win taking both sides of a PSAC Central doubleheader on Saturday at Lutes Field.

In game one, Bloomsburg (14-15, 6-6 PSAC Central) got on the board with two runs in the first and added four more on an in-park home run in the fifth. The Huskies' ball wedged under the fence but with no call from the referee, they upped their lead to 6-0.

Alli McGovern and Joelle Snyder each tallied hits for Mansfield (7-8, 5-5 PSAC Central) in the game.

Alyssa Davies allowed just three hits with four strikeouts in the complete game shutout. Arianna Young struck out four batters and allowed four earned runs with no walks in the loss.

Bloomsburg punched in first again in the second game scoring two runs in the second and another in the third. In the top of the fifth, the Huskies pushed across two runs to extend the lead to 5-0.

The Mountaineers came back with a strong response in the bottom of the inning scoring three runs of their own. Alli McGovern reach on a throwing error before advancing to third on a Snyder double to left field. Koryn Wickwire loaded the bases allowing McGovern to score on Sterner's sacrifice fly.

In an exciting feat, Anastasia Hester singled to center field and was able to advance on the throw to third. Unable to field it cleanly, the third basemen opened up the door to Snyder and Hein to cut the lead to 5-3.

Despite their rallying efforts, Bloomsburg added an insurance run in the sixth to end the game with a 3-run advantage.

Hester recorded three hits in four at bats and two RBIs. Snyder doubled on each of her hits while scoring a run as well.

Three pitchers took to the circle for BU with Tara Baney taking the win and Alyssa Davies the save. Sierra Storm took her second loss of the season after allowing 12 hits with one strikeout. Connor Decker saw six batters with one hit in two innings of relief work.
